| Profile | Anne is married to a teacher and has two adult sons and three grandsons. After completing her formal education she trained as a secondary school teacher specialising in food and nutrition, home management and design.
When her children were young she became involved with the local playgroup, became a primary school volunteer and studied for a degree with the Open University.
As her children reached school age Anne returned to teaching, initially in the north-east and later the south-west of England. Her teaching included child development, health and social care, careers and personal, health and social education (PHSE).
In 1996 Anne trained as a massage therapist with a qualification from the International Therapy Examinations Council (ITEC). She then trained as an Aromatherapist (ITEC), did a course in Indian Head Massage and also seated acupressure massage.
In 1999 Anne left teaching to set up her own business as a massage therapist. She also became a volunteer therapist for a cancer-care charity.
In 2001, having read an article in the Times Educational Supplement about the impact of the Massage in Schools Programme in a London primary school, Anne trained as a Massage in Schools Instructor. This combined her continuing interest in education with her skills as a therapist. She then introduced the Programme into schools in her area.
In 2003 Anne trained as a Massage in Schools Trainer. She also presents an introduction to the Massage in Schools Programme and the use of positive touch at local education authority conferences, head teachers' academic councils, workshops and in-service training days for school staff. Anne is particularly interested in ways in which the MISP can be integrated in the nursery and primary school curriculum as well as specific benefits for those with special educational needs.
Anne is the membership secretary of the Massage in Schools Association (MISA) and supports Instructors with personal contact and the formation of support groups.
